Fear not, however, because you are on a guide that makes it easier than ever!

How to Draw A Mug

Step 1

For the first step of our how-to draw a mug guide, we will use a pencil to draw an outline you’ll use when adding finer details later.

As mentioned, a cup is a fairly simple structure, but it cannot be easy to draw.

This is because it has a rounded design, requiring a steady hand to draw properly.

There is no rush when drawing, and you can take your time. With that in mind, carefully use the pencil to draw the shape in our reference image.

Using a pencil means you don’t have to worry about making mistakes or getting something wrong, making drawing much less stressful!

When you are happy with the pencil outline, you can use the pen to draw the oval rim of the cup.

Step 2

As a continuation of the previous step, we will add some pen details to the mug design in this next step.

Carefully draw a curved line along the left side to line this edge. Thanks to the pencil lines you drew in the previous step, it should get a lot easier!

Step 3

This third step of our tutorial on drawing a mug should be fine because you’re doing what you did in the previous step.

To finish this third part, draw another curved line for the right side of the cup. That’s all for this step, so let’s move on to step 4 now.

Step 4

Your mug design needs a handle, so let’s start drawing one now! All you have to do for this step is use the pen to outline the direction line you drew in the first step.

We’ll be adding the inside edge of this handle very soon when we get to the final details in the next step.

Finally, draw a line along the inside edge of the cup to show that there is something inside.

Step 5

Before moving on to the final coloring phase of this how-to draw-a-mug guide, there are a few more details to add.

This is also a step where you can add your details and elements. To complete the details, you can first use the pen to draw the inside edge of the handle, as shown in the reference image.

To complete this step, you can draw the cup’s bottom edge on the pencil you already have.

Once you’ve drawn all the pencil lines, you can erase the pencil lines if you haven’t already done so.

Be careful when doing this, however, as the ink on your pen can sometimes take a while to dry completely. If you erase too soon, the ink may smudge your beautiful drawing!

Before moving to the last step, you can add details and elements. You could paint a logo or a fun phrase on the mug to give it some personality. You can also design a background with other goodies in the background.

We might fully draw your mug now, but there’s one last thing you can do to add some life to your mug design, which adds some pretty colors!

We used shades of blue for the mug and then different shades of brown for the drink inside the mug.

You could choose a similar color scheme for your mug design, but feel free! You can use any colors you love to complete your design.

If you’ve drawn something on the mug or added a background, it’s also a great way to add even more color to your design.

This allows you to experiment with different artistic mediums. You can use acrylic paint, crayons, or markers for a more vibrant look.

This would give the image a striking and more modern look.

On the other hand, watercolors, crayons and pastels are perfect for softer colors that create a more classic look.
