Many people worldwide have fallen in love with these clever little rodents, and this popularity has led many people to learn how to draw a ferret.
If you also love ferrets and want to learn to draw one yourself, we recommend reading this guide to the end!
Our step-by-step How to Draw a Ferret tutorial will show you how to draw one of these cute little boys while having fun!
How to Draw A Ferret
Step 1
The ferret we will create in our tutorial on drawing a ferret is made in a cute cartoon style.
To begin this drawing, let’s start with the ferret’s head. You can start by drawing two rounded shapes for the eyes. Then you can draw big pupils in the eyes for extra cuteness!
There will then be a shape around the eyes that almost resembles a thief’s mask! So the nose will be small and triangular with some rounded lines for the mouth underneath.
Finally, we use more rounded lines for the outline of the face and add two more curved lines for the small short ears.
Step 2
For this next part of your ferret drawing, we’ll work on the front legs.
The way we’re drawing this ferret makes it look like it’s made up of three separate sections, but that’s exactly how the ferret is modelled.
Use rough lines for the long neck leading into two short legs. We will use some jagged lines to make the ferret look even hairier.
Then you can complete this step by drawing even more irregular lines from the back of the head to the right leg.
That completes the first section of the ferret’s body, and then you’re ready for step 3!
Step 3
In this third step of our tutorial on how to draw a ferret, we will draw the middle part of the body.
Ferrets have long bodies with short legs so we will use some long lines for this centre part. Extend one line backwards from the base of the neck and then another from the back of the front leg.
So we use some curved lines to draw the beginning of the legs for the ferret, and then we can finish them in the next step.
Step 4
We can now complete the outline of the ferret drawing to prepare you for some final details and colours in the next few steps.
For this step, we will finish this outline by drawing the third and final section of the body.
Use a few more curved, rounded lines for the bushy tail that wraps around the body, and then you can draw the last two little stubby legs at the back.
Once you’ve replicated this pattern as it looks in the reference image, you’re good to go!
For now, we will add many little lines all over the ferret to make it look even hairier! Once you have drawn these lines, you can move on to the last step.
Before you do that, feel free to add any finishing touches and elements you might like! It would be fun to draw a background as it shows where this cute ferret is.
If you have a pet ferret or want to own one, you can draw other pets you own or want to own next to it!
Step 5
Before we colourize your image, let’s add some detail and finishing touches. You also have the option to add some cool details and elements of your own!

This is the final step of your ferret drawing, and in this one, we will finish it by adding some colours! In our reference image, we chose a dark brown and white colourway.
These alternating colours help highlight the different sections of the ferret. Ferrets come in various colours and shades, so feel free to use other colours you like!
Then you can choose what artistic media you will use for those colours.
Do you choose painting media like acrylics and watercolours or markers and crayons? There are so many options, and we’re excited to see what you choose!
